Dental Implants vs. Dentures: The Real Difference Is in Your Jawbone
One conversation comes up over and over again in my office. Someone has been wearing a denture for a few years. It isn't broken, and...
Board-Certified Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon
Dr. Christopher J. Price is a board-certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon at Utah Facial & Oral Surgery, trained at Columbia University College of Dental Medicine and UT Southwestern Medical Center, with a six-year OMS residency at UT Southwestern/Parkland Memorial Hospital and a fellowship in cosmetic surgery.
Dr. Christopher J. Price is a board-certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon who has built his practice around dental implant surgery, full arch reconstruction, and the surgical treatment of the jaws and face. He holds both a dental degree and a medical degree, the most extensive training pathway available in the specialty, and one that allows him to manage the surgical, medical, and anesthetic sides of a case himself rather than dividing them across providers.
Dr. Price completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Utah, then earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery at Columbia University College of Dental Medicine in New York City, one of the oldest dental schools in the country and among the most selective.
He pursued his specialty training in Texas, completing a dual-degree residency in oral and maxillofacial surgery through UT Southwestern Medical Center and Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas. The program awarded him a Doctor of Medicine in 2005 alongside his certification in oral and maxillofacial surgery, a six-year pathway that adds full medical school training, a general surgery internship, and hospital-based surgical rotations to the standard oral surgery curriculum. He completed the residency in 2008. Parkland is one of the busiest Level I trauma centers in the United States, and residents there manage facial fractures, deep space infections, complex extractions, reconstructive procedures, and the medically compromised patients who present to a major public hospital.
After residency, Dr. Price completed a fellowship in facial cosmetic surgery, adding a year of focused aesthetic training to a foundation already built on reconstruction and trauma.
Dr. Price has practiced oral and maxillofacial surgery in Utah since completing his training, first at Utah Surgical Arts and now at Utah Facial & Oral Surgery, where he sees patients across the Salt Lake Valley and Utah County. His practice covers the full scope of the specialty, from routine wisdom tooth removal to full arch implant reconstruction, orthognathic surgery, and facial trauma repair.
That range matters most in the cases that do not go by the book: insufficient bone, failing dentition, jaws that do not align, airway obstruction, and medical histories that change how a case has to be sequenced. A surgeon trained in both dentistry and medicine, with hospital experience in trauma and reconstruction, can plan around those variables rather than refer them out.
Dr. Price is board certified in oral and maxillofacial surgery and licensed to practice in Utah. He holds hospital affiliations within the Intermountain Health system, including Riverton Hospital, Alta View Hospital, Intermountain Medical Center, and Utah Valley Hospital. His dual DDS and MD qualification, together with the anesthesia training built into his residency, allows him to deliver IV sedation and general anesthesia in the office under his own credentials.
A University of Utah graduate, Dr. Price returned to the state to practice after completing his training in New York and Dallas. He sees patients at Utah Facial & Oral Surgery’s South Jordan, Lehi, and Riverton offices and works closely with the referring dentists, orthodontists, and physicians who serve the same communities.

Many patients wait a long time before considering full arch restoration—and it usually doesn’t have much to do with their teeth. By the time someone...
